Simon Marshall was born and raised in central London. He read History at University College London, before completing his Master’s with distinction in Imperial and Commonwealth History at the Strand Poly (aka King’s College London).
It was during his MA that he became interested in Austrian history, finding many parallels between the multi-ethnic Habsburg Monarchy and the various strands of British political philosophy in the early twentieth century that sought to strengthen the British Empire by focusing on its (supposed) Anglo-Saxon core.
Since completing his degrees, Simon has done the usual rounds of a jobbing artist: private tutoring, teaching English in Italy, managing student bars and waiting on Thames riverboats. He spent seven years working as a Real Tennis Professional in Bordeaux and Paris, and now works as a Part-time professional wherever required.
He is currently writing his second novel….and still resides mostly in France.
